Apple says more than 100,000 apps have already been optimized for iPhone Duo, with thousands of additional updates reaching the App Store each day as developers adapt their software to the foldable iPhone’s two displays.
In a statement provided to 9to5Mac, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, Susan Prescott, said the total is now well above 100,000. Apple also says more than 2,000 developers have attended over 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities to prepare apps for the device.
For iPhone Duo owners, the milestone means a growing selection of apps can make better use of the 7.6-inch inner display rather than simply appearing as enlarged versions of traditional iPhone apps. Optimized layouts can provide more room for content, navigation and multitasking when the phone is unfolded.
Apple highlights compatible software through App Store collections including “Popular Apps on iPhone Duo” and “Great Games on iPhone Duo.” Individual listings can also display the “Made for iPhone Duo” badge, helping customers identify apps adapted for the folding display before downloading them.
Among the recently updated apps are Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Zoom, Etsy and Halide Mark III. Their support is particularly useful for people who want to work with documents, manage messages or use creative tools on the larger screen without switching to an iPad.
The growing catalog does not mean every iPhone app has been redesigned for Duo, or that every optimized app will make equally good use of its displays. Developers can continue improving layouts and interactions after an initial update, so the experience may differ from one app to another.
Apple opened submissions for iPhone Duo-optimized apps ahead of the phone’s October 23 release, giving developers tools to test different screen sizes, orientations and folding positions. The latest figure suggests that work is continuing beyond launch as more familiar apps gain dedicated support.
