Apple’s new MacBook Pro can now be configured with up to 16TB of storage and up to 128GB of unified memory, giving the latest M5 Pro and M5 Max models significantly more headroom for demanding professional workflows.
The expanded configuration options were confirmed in Apple’s new MacBook Pro announcement, alongside Touch, Dynamic Island and the new PROLED XDR tandem OLED display.
Apple says the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are designed for demanding tasks including software development, 3D rendering, AI workloads, scientific computing and editing multiple streams of 8K ProRes video.
With M5 Max, Apple says users can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on device, helped by the high unified memory ceiling and Neural Accelerators built into each GPU core.
The move to as much as 16TB of storage gives users working with large video, 3D and AI datasets considerably more local capacity without relying as heavily on external drives.
The new MacBook Pro is available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and can be pre-ordered now, with availability beginning Friday, November 6.
