Apple’s new MacBook Pro is significantly lighter and thinner than the previous generation, with the 14-inch model dropping to 3 pounds and the 16-inch model now weighing 4 pounds.
The changes form part of Apple’s all-new MacBook Pro announcement, which also introduces Touch, a tandem OLED PROLED XDR display, Dynamic Island and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
Apple says the 14-inch MacBook Pro is now half a pound lighter than before, while the 16-inch model loses 0.7 pounds. The 14-inch model is also around half a millimeter thinner, while the 16-inch model is nearly a millimeter thinner.
The slimmer chassis is partly enabled by the more efficient OLED display stack. Apple has also redesigned the thermal architecture so the new models can sustain M5 Pro and M5 Max performance while directing warm air away from the display.
Display borders have been reduced, allowing the larger model to grow to a 16.3-inch screen while the smaller version retains a 14.2-inch display.
Despite the lower weight and thinner design, Apple says battery life reaches up to 24 hours, while the machines retain three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack.
The new MacBook Pro is available to pre-order now and begins arriving to customers on Friday, November 6.
