Apple has unveiled an all-new MacBook Pro, bringing Touch to the Mac for the first time alongside a new PROLED XDR display, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, Dynamic Island, a thinner and lighter design, and up to 24 hours of battery life.
Announced in an Apple Newsroom press release on Wednesday, the new MacBook Pro is available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and represents one of the biggest changes to Apple’s pro notebook lineup in years.
The headline addition is Touch. Apple says the touch sensor is integrated directly into the display panel to reduce latency, allowing users to scroll, pinch to zoom, drag and drop, tile windows, draw directly on the display, play software instruments, and interact with compatible apps without giving up the keyboard and trackpad.
The MacBook Pro also introduces Dynamic Island to the Mac. It becomes the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI, with users able to control music, accept AirDrop requests, answer calls and see real-time information directly from the area at the top of the display.
Apple’s new PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology and reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness. It also offers a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, support for P3 and Adobe RGB, and an optional nano-texture finish.
Inside, the new models are powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max, with support for up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple says M5 Max can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on device.
The redesign also cuts weight. The 14-inch model now weighs 3 pounds, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds. Both machines are thinner than their predecessors while retaining a redesigned thermal system for sustained performance.
Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 in the U.S., while the 16-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $3,399.
Pre-orders are open now, with the new MacBook Pro arriving to customers and Apple Stores beginning Friday, November 6.
