Apple’s M6 transition could take a major step forward later this month, with the company reportedly preparing to show new M6 Macs to invited media during an all-day Los Angeles product experience on October 28.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the event will cover touchscreen MacBooks, a new iPad mini and M6 Macs, adding fresh weight to earlier reports that Apple is preparing both an M6 14-inch MacBook Pro and an updated iMac before the end of October.
The standard 14-inch MacBook Pro is expected to be the more straightforward of the two MacBook launches. Rather than receiving the dramatic OLED touchscreen redesign planned for Apple’s higher-end notebooks, the M6 model is expected to retain the current design while moving to Apple’s latest silicon.
The Apple Post previously reported that the M6 MacBook Pro could arrive this month, with the familiar chassis allowing Apple to focus the update on performance, efficiency and the capabilities of the new chip.
The M6 chip is expected to bring stronger CPU and GPU performance alongside a major focus on on-device AI. Earlier reporting pointed to significant AI, CPU and efficiency improvements for the M6 MacBook Pro, while Apple’s move to a newer manufacturing process should also support better power efficiency.
Apple is also expected to update the 24-inch iMac with M6. Unlike the touchscreen MacBook Pro, the iMac is not currently expected to receive a major redesign. Instead, reports point to the existing all-in-one design continuing with faster internals and potentially refreshed color options.
The upcoming M6 iMac is expected to skip the M5 generation entirely, moving directly from the M4 model introduced in 2024 to Apple’s newest chip family. The company has taken a less predictable approach to iMac updates in recent years, making the jump particularly notable.
The late-October launch could therefore give Apple two very different Mac stories at once: familiar products receiving M6 upgrades, and redesigned high-end MacBook Pro models introducing OLED and touch. The split MacBook Pro strategy could make this one of Apple’s most unusual notebook launches in years.
Gurman’s latest report does not specify exactly which M6 Macs will be available for hands-on use on October 28, and Apple has not formally announced the Los Angeles experience. However, the invitation of media for an all-day product launch adds another strong indication that the next stage of the M6 rollout is close.
