Apple officially unveils HomeView, its new smart home hub

Apple has officially unveiled HomeView, a new smart home hub designed to bring entertainment, communication and Apple Home controls together on a dedicated display.

The device forms the centerpiece of Apple’s biggest smart home push to date, sitting alongside the newly announced HomePod mini 2, Apple TV 4K and Apple Home Collection accessories.

In its HomeView announcement, Apple positions the product as a shared device for the home, combining Siri-powered interaction with at-a-glance information, media and direct control of connected accessories.

HomeView becomes the center of Apple’s new smart home lineup

HomeView can work as a home hub for Apple Home accessories, including the new range of cameras, locks, thermostats and sensors Apple has developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.

Apple says Home Collection cameras can be viewed directly on HomeView, while doorbell alerts can appear across Apple devices and chimes can play through HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini.

The device is also central to Apple’s new approach to home security and automation, with camera footage and Home data protected by end-to-end encryption.

Apple’s wider launch includes the HomePod mini 2 with Siri AI and an S10 chip and the new Apple Home Collection of accessories.

Apple also confirms that HomeView will not initially be sold in the European Union because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS there. The company says it is working with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward.
