New OLED iPad mini reportedly getting A20 Pro chip

Apple’s next iPad mini is reportedly set to use the A20 Pro chip, giving the compact tablet the same processor generation as Apple’s latest high-end iPhones as part of a major hardware redesign.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now points specifically to the A20 Pro for the upcoming iPad mini, narrowing earlier reports that had left both A19 Pro and A20 Pro hardware in contention.

The processor upgrade is expected to arrive alongside an OLED display, a redesigned speaker system and a relocated FaceTime camera.

A20 Pro would resolve an earlier iPad mini question

The Apple Post previously reported that the new iPad mini could use either an A19 Pro or A20 Pro chip as evidence around the unreleased hardware continued to develop.

Gurman’s latest reporting now puts the A20 Pro at the center of the expected specification, giving the small tablet a substantial performance upgrade over the current generation.

The A20 Pro is also used in Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup and iPhone Duo, meaning the iPad mini would gain a current-generation Pro-class mobile processor rather than inheriting older silicon.

The chip will form only one part of what is shaping up to be a broader redesign. OLED is expected to replace LCD, while Apple is also reportedly changing the front-camera position and speaker system.

The new iPad mini is expected to be introduced later in October as part of Apple’s second wave of product announcements, separate from the October 13 “Welcome home” launch.
