iPad Air reportedly getting OLED display in 2027

Apple is reportedly preparing one of the biggest display upgrades yet for the iPad Air, with OLED technology expected to reach the lineup in 2027.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans a major iPad Air refresh next year that will replace the model’s LCD display with OLED.

The move would extend OLED further through the iPad family after Apple first introduced the technology to iPad Pro and as a new OLED iPad mini prepares to launch.

OLED is moving deeper into the iPad lineup

OLED panels can switch individual pixels on and off rather than relying on a separate backlight, allowing deeper blacks, stronger contrast and more precise control over dark scenes.

Bringing the technology to iPad Air would narrow one of the most visible display differences between Apple’s mid-range tablet and the iPad Pro, although the two products can still be separated by panel technology, refresh rate and other hardware features.

Bloomberg’s latest report does not give an exact 2027 release date or final pricing for the redesigned iPad Air.

The reported upgrade is part of a broader iPad roadmap for next year. Apple is also said to be planning new entry-level iPads in early 2027 and an updated iPad Pro with improved cooling.

Before those products arrive, Apple is expected to introduce a new iPad mini with an OLED display later this month, marking the next step in the company’s expansion of OLED across its tablet lineup.
