Apple’s next iPad mini could become considerably more expensive as the compact tablet moves to an OLED display, with a starting price closer to $799 reportedly being considered.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, he is hearing that the redesigned iPad mini will be “considerably more expensive,” with pricing potentially landing around the $799 mark.
That would be a major increase for Apple’s smallest iPad and could substantially change how the mini sits within the wider iPad lineup.
The next iPad mini is expected to introduce an OLED display for the first time, replacing the LCD panel used in the current model. The Apple Post previously reported on the OLED upgrade and the new processor expected inside the device.
Bloomberg’s latest pricing detail suggests Apple may position the redesign as a much more premium compact tablet rather than keeping the iPad mini near its previous price point.
Other reports around the upcoming model have pointed to a redesigned chassis, thinner bezels and an upgraded speaker system, while leaked Apple material has indicated an A20 Pro chip and a landscape-positioned front camera.
The iPad mini is expected to be part of Apple’s second wave of October hardware announcements, with a product presentation reportedly planned on or around October 27.
A price near $799 is not yet an announced figure and Gurman presents it as the level the new model could approach, rather than a finalized retail price. Apple’s actual U.S. and U.K. pricing should become clear when the device is introduced.
