Apple’s long-awaited HomePod mini 2 is reportedly set to replace the six-year-old speaker’s S5 processor with the much newer S10 chip while introducing a refreshed selection of colors.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the second-generation HomePod mini will use the S10, giving Apple’s smallest smart speaker considerably newer processing hardware as Siri AI becomes central to the company’s home strategy.
The speaker is also expected to come in pink, green and blue alongside midnight and white.
The original HomePod mini launched in 2020 with the S5 chip, technology that had first appeared in Apple Watch Series 5. The S10 upgrade should provide substantially more processing headroom for the new generation.
Bloomberg says the new HomePod mini will work with Apple’s Siri AI experience and help extend the HomeView system around the house, providing voice control and music playback in additional rooms.
The Apple Post previously reported on the expected Siri AI focus of HomePod mini 2, with the new chip now giving that upgrade a specific processor.
The familiar exterior is expected to remain, making the internal hardware, Siri capabilities and new color selection the key changes rather than a wholesale redesign.
Apple is expected to unveil HomePod mini 2 during its October 13 “Welcome home” launch before the speaker reaches customers and stores on October 30.
