Apple Cash users will need to verify their identity to continue adding money to their balance under new rules taking effect from November 9.
Updated Apple Cash terms from Green Dot Bank say unverified accounts will no longer be able to reload an Apple Cash balance using a supported payment card once the new requirement begins rolling out.
The restriction will also apply to receiving a peer-to-peer transfer if the account has already received a P2P transfer or previously added funds using a supported payment card.
The change does not mean users will have to complete an identity check every time they add money. Instead, the Apple Cash account itself must be registered and verified with Green Dot Bank before those features remain available.
Apple Cash already places limits on unverified accounts. Users must verify their identity to send or receive more than $500 through P2P transfers, and verification is also required for features including Apple Cash Family, purchases outside the U.S. and eligibility for FDIC insurance on an Apple Cash balance.
The Apple Post previously reported on Apple Cash introducing identity verification for users sending more than $500, with the latest terms extending those requirements further to balance reloads and some incoming transfers.
Users who have not already verified their identity can start the process from the Wallet app by opening their Apple Cash card, selecting the card details menu and choosing Verify Identity when the option is shown.
Apple Cash remains available only in the United States. For the latest Apple Wallet, Apple Pay and Apple Cash news, download The Apple Post app on iPhone and iPad.
