Apple quietly gives iCloud+ subscribers a major custom email upgrade

Apple has quietly expanded one of iCloud+’s lesser-known features, allowing subscribers to create significantly more personalized email addresses using their own custom domains.

iCloud+ subscribers can now create up to 10 personalized email addresses for each custom domain, up from the previous limit of three.

Apple’s updated support documentation confirms that subscribers can use as many as five custom domains, with up to 10 personalized addresses on each domain.

Custom Email Domain allows an iCloud+ subscriber who owns a domain to use it with iCloud Mail instead of an @icloud.com address. For example, someone who owns example.com could create personalized addresses ending in @example.com and use them through Apple’s Mail service.

The increase makes the feature considerably more practical for people who want separate addresses for different purposes, as well as families and small businesses using a shared domain.

Apple allows a custom domain to be shared with up to five other people. Each person it is shared with can create up to 10 personalized email addresses on that domain, according to Apple’s documentation.

The addresses work through iCloud Mail and can be used in the Mail app on devices signed into the subscriber’s Apple Account, as well as on iCloud.com. Personalized addresses can also be used with services including Messages, FaceTime and Calendar.

The expanded limit is available as part of iCloud+ without a separate charge beyond the subscriber’s existing plan, although users need to own a domain or purchase one separately.
