OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro could launch as early as October

Apple could introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro as early as October, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now pointing to an October or November launch for the major redesign.

Speaking on the first episode of Bloomberg’s Power On podcast, Gurman said he believes Apple’s new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens will arrive this fall, potentially as soon as this month.

The narrower window is significant after previous reports placed the redesigned MacBook Pro more broadly between late 2026 and early 2027.

Apple is currently testing the new laptops with macOS 27.2, according to Gurman. The update is already in beta and is expected toward the end of October, potentially providing a clue to the hardware’s launch timing.

The OLED display is expected to be one of the biggest changes to the MacBook Pro in years, replacing the mini-LED technology used in current high-end models while also bringing touch input to a Mac laptop for the first time.

The Apple Post previously reported that Apple was testing its first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro, marking a major shift after years of keeping touch interfaces largely separate between the Mac and iPad.

The redesigned models are also expected to feature a thinner enclosure and replace the current display notch with a Dynamic Island-style cutout.

Despite the major redesign, the machines are reportedly set to use Apple’s existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than introducing new M6 Pro and M6 Max processors.

Gurman’s latest comments suggest Apple could position the touchscreen OLED machines above its regular 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro lineup.

That could also leave Apple with an unusual naming decision. It remains unclear whether the new models will continue to use the MacBook Pro name or adopt different branding, with “MacBook Ultra” previously floated as a possibility rather than a confirmed product name.

The new timing also puts the redesigned MacBook Pro into what is already shaping up to be a busy fall for Apple hardware.

Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce HomePad, HomePod mini 2, and a new Apple TV 4K on October 13, while other Mac updates are also expected during the fall.

Gurman’s comments don’t establish a specific announcement date for the OLED MacBook Pro, and he noted that the launch could still move into November.

But with macOS 27.2 testing underway and the previous early-2027 possibility now narrowed to this fall, Apple’s long-rumored touchscreen MacBook Pro could be only weeks away.
