Apple’s upcoming iPhone Duo appears to have several StandBy features that the company didn’t announce earlier this month, including new views for Home cameras, smart home controls and Snoopy.
The additional features were discovered by developer and leaker pdfu in code from the iOS 27.1 simulator, which contains localization strings pointing to five previously unannounced StandBy views: Home Camera, Home Modular, Flow, Fade and Snoopy.
iPhone Duo introduces a considerably expanded version of StandBy designed around its foldable form factor. The device can sit partially folded in a standing position, effectively creating its own stand without requiring a separate accessory.
Unlike StandBy on Apple’s existing iPhones, the iPhone Duo version can also be used when the device isn’t connected to a charger.
Apple demonstrated several StandBy experiences when it unveiled iPhone Duo on September 9, including Analog, Digital, Classic Calendar, Weather, Photos, Memories, Shared Albums and Modular views.
The newly discovered code suggests Apple has more planned for the feature than it revealed during the announcement.
Home Camera appears to let users display a feed from a smart home camera directly in StandBy, while Home Modular can show multiple camera feeds or provide a customizable collection of smart home controls.
That could make a partially folded iPhone Duo useful as a temporary Home dashboard, allowing users to leave the device standing on a desk, kitchen counter or bedside table while keeping cameras and accessories immediately accessible.
The other three newly discovered views are less clear.
According to pdfu, Flow appears to involve responsive artwork, while details surrounding Fade remain limited. Snoopy is expected to provide an animated experience similar to Apple’s Snoopy screensaver on Apple TV.
The leak also reveals elements of the customization interface Apple is preparing for several of the StandBy views.
The code references an internal app called Rushmore that appears intended to host the redesigned faces, although pdfu says the app itself is currently missing from the iOS 27.1 simulator. Localization strings left behind in the software nevertheless reveal the names of the additional experiences, and some of the new faces have been made to run using the current renderer.
The discovery doesn’t necessarily mean every hidden view will be available when iPhone Duo reaches customers. Features found in pre-release software can change or be removed before launch, and Apple hasn’t announced the five additional StandBy options.
Apple says iPhone Duo will be available for pre-order beginning October 16 at 5 a.m. PT, with the first devices reaching customers and Apple Stores on October 23.
