Apple has revised compatibility information for its new Texture and Grain controls in Photographic Styles, confirming the features are limited to iPhone 18 Pro models and iPhone Duo.
When Apple introduced iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, its original Newsroom wording indicated the controls would be available in iOS 27 on iPhone models supporting the latest generation of Photographic Styles. That description suggested several older iPhones would also receive the features.
Apple has since changed the compatibility note. Its updated information says Texture and Grain controls are available for photos captured on iPhone 18 Pro models and with the Ultra Wide, Main and Center Stage cameras on iPhone Duo.
The change excludes devices including the iPhone 16 lineup, iPhone 17 lineup and iPhone Air, despite those models supporting the newer generation of Photographic Styles.
Texture and Grain expand Apple’s Photographic Styles system by giving users additional control over the appearance of images. On iPhone 18 Pro, the controls sit alongside the broader camera upgrades introduced this year, including a new computational imaging pipeline and variable aperture Main camera.
It is unclear whether Apple originally planned broader compatibility and changed course, or whether the original wording was simply incorrect. Apple’s current documentation now consistently points to the feature being restricted to its newest supported camera hardware.
