The driver accused of crashing an SUV through an Apple Store in Hingham, Massachusetts in 2022, killing one person and injuring more than 20 others, has been cleared to stand trial.
Bradley Rein faces charges including second-degree murder and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation over the November 21, 2022 crash at Apple Derby Street, according to NBC10 Boston.
The crash killed 65-year-old Kevin Bradley, a New Jersey man who Apple said was at the store supporting recent construction work, and injured 22 others.
Rein previously told investigators that he had been searching for an eyeglass store when his right foot became stuck on the accelerator of his Toyota 4Runner. The Apple Post reported at the time that Rein said he attempted to brake with his left foot but was unable to stop the vehicle before it went through the store’s glass facade.
The incident prompted a major emergency response, with victims suffering a range of serious injuries. In the days after the crash, Apple CEO Tim Cook and retail chief Deirdre O’Brien visited some of those injured at South Shore Hospital.
Apple said following the crash that it was devastated by the events at Apple Derby Street and was supporting employees, customers and others affected.
The criminal case has continued for almost four years. Rein’s bail was revoked in August after prosecutors said he violated conditions of his release. With Rein now cleared to stand trial, the case can move forward on the charges against him.
