How to share your location for a custom amount of time in Find My on iOS 27

iOS 27 gives iPhone users more control over how long their location is shared with friends and family through Find My, making it easier to share your whereabouts without leaving location sharing switched on indefinitely.

Instead of relying only on broad sharing options, Find My lets you choose a custom duration measured in minutes, hours or days. You can also specify an exact date and time for location sharing to end automatically, which can be useful when travelling, attending an event or meeting someone.

The feature means you do not need to remember to manually stop sharing your location afterwards. Once the duration you select expires, Find My automatically ends location sharing with that person.

How to share your location for a custom amount of time in Find My on iOS 27

  1. Open the Find My app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the People tab.
  3. Choose the person you want to share your location with, or start sharing your location with a new person.
  4. Select the option to set a custom duration for location sharing.
  5. Choose how many minutes, hours or days you want your location to remain available. Alternatively, set a specific date and time for sharing to end.
  6. Confirm your selection to begin sharing your location.

Find My also lets you temporarily pause location sharing with an individual until the end of the day. This can be useful if you normally share your location with someone but temporarily want to keep your whereabouts private, such as when buying a surprise gift or travelling to a surprise party.

How to pause Find My location sharing until the end of the day

  1. Open Find My and select the People tab.
  2. Tap the person you want to temporarily stop sharing your location with.
  3. Choose the option to pause location sharing until the end of the day.
  4. Confirm the change.

Your normal location-sharing arrangement can then resume without you having to permanently remove the person from Find My.
