How to connect an iPhone to gym equipment with GymKit in iOS 27

GymKit expands to iPhone in iOS 27, allowing a compatible iPhone to connect directly with supported cardio equipment for more accurate workout information.

The system can work with equipment such as compatible treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes and stair-steppers, combining information from the machine with your Apple fitness data.

GymKit support depends on the equipment at your gym. If a machine does not support GymKit, updating your iPhone will not add compatibility to it.

How to connect your iPhone to GymKit equipment in iOS 27

  1. Make sure the cardio machine supports Apple GymKit.
  2. Unlock your iPhone and bring it close to the machine’s GymKit connection point.
  3. Follow the prompt that appears on your iPhone to connect.
  4. Confirm the connection if asked.
  5. Start your workout on the gym equipment.
  6. Use your iPhone to monitor the workout information made available through the connection.
  7. End the workout normally when you finish and check the recorded activity on your iPhone.

If your iPhone does not detect the machine, check that the equipment is GymKit-compatible and ask the gym whether its connectivity features are enabled.
