Setting up a Child Account is the starting point for many of Apple’s parental controls, allowing parents to create an age-appropriate experience across iPhone and other Apple devices.
A Child Account enables safeguards based on the child’s age, including restrictions around adult websites, media and App Store content. Apple requires a Child Account for children under 13 and makes the option available for children up to 18.
Parents setting up a new device for their child are guided through the process, after which additional controls can be adjusted to suit the family.
How to create a Child Account in iOS 27
- Open Settings on your iPhone and open your family settings.
- Choose the option to add a family member.
- Select the option to create an account for a child.
- Enter your child’s name and correct date of birth.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to finish creating the account and add it to your family group.
- When setting up your child’s device, sign in using their Child Account.
- Review the age-appropriate content, communication and Screen Time controls available to you.
Once the Child Account is configured, parents can continue managing its protections and permissions from their own Apple devices.
