With only hours remaining before Apple unveils the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, Verizon’s own AI assistant appears to have started talking about the unreleased devices, although some of its claims should be treated with considerable caution.
Screenshots shared with MacRumors reportedly show the Ask Verizon assistant providing detailed specifications for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max before Apple has announced either device.
Among the more interesting claims is that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a 48-megapixel telephoto camera offering up to 10x optical zoom, compared with up to 8x on the smaller Pro. The assistant also claimed the Pro Max would have 16GB of RAM, while the iPhone 18 Pro would use 12GB.
According to the responses, both models would gain a variable-aperture 48-megapixel main camera capable of adjusting between f/1.4 and f/4.0. The Pro Max was additionally described as having a larger main sensor and more advanced sensor-shift stabilization.
Other details included 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, the A20 Pro chip and 48-megapixel ultra wide cameras. Those claims broadly fit with several existing rumors surrounding Apple’s next Pro iPhones.
However, there are good reasons not to treat the Verizon responses as confirmation. The assistant reportedly listed starting prices of $1,099.99 and $1,199.99, effectively unchanged from the current generation, despite increasingly credible reports that Apple intends to raise prices. It also named four finishes that conflict with more recent color leaks.
MacRumors was unable to independently reproduce the conversation, leaving open the possibility that Verizon’s chatbot was generating plausible-looking answers from old or incorrect information rather than accessing unreleased product data. Apple will settle the matter when its “Surprise and shine” event begins later today.
