Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new iPad mini by the end of October, with the device expected to receive one of its biggest display upgrades yet.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, as reported by MacRumors, Apple is planning to release an updated iPad mini later this year featuring an OLED display, bringing the screen technology already used in the iPad Pro to Apple’s smallest iPad.
The move from LCD to OLED would be a significant upgrade for the iPad mini, offering deeper blacks, improved contrast, richer colors, and a more premium viewing experience for reading, gaming, watching video, editing photos, and using creative apps.
Apple introduced OLED to the iPad lineup with the iPad Pro in 2024, but the iPad mini, iPad Air, and entry-level iPad have continued to use LCD panels. If the latest report is accurate, the iPad mini could become the next iPad model to make the jump to OLED.
The new display may also come with a higher price. OLED panels are typically more expensive to produce than LCD screens, meaning Apple could raise the starting price of the next iPad mini compared with the current model.
Beyond the display, the next iPad mini is also rumored to include a faster chip, potentially either the A19 Pro or A20, replacing the A17 Pro chip used in the current model. That would bring stronger performance and better support for Apple Intelligence features.
Previous reports have also suggested Apple is working on improved water resistance for the iPad mini, alongside a new speaker system that could make the device more durable and better suited to entertainment use.
The current iPad mini launched in October 2024, adding the A17 Pro chip and support for Apple Intelligence. However, the design remained largely familiar, meaning the next update could focus on meaningful internal and display improvements rather than a major redesign.
