Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States over delayed personalized Siri features tied to Apple Intelligence.
The lawsuit accused Apple of false advertising and unfair competition after the company heavily promoted a more personalized Siri experience during the launch of the iPhone 16 lineup, only for key features to be delayed well beyond their expected release window.
Under the proposed settlement, eligible U.S. customers who submit a claim could receive around $25 per eligible device, though payments could reportedly rise to as much as $95 per device if fewer claims are submitted.
Eligible products include the iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max purchased between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025.
The controversy centers around Apple’s next-generation Siri features, first showcased as part of Apple Intelligence. Apple demonstrated a far more context-aware assistant capable of understanding personal information, app activity, screen content, and more natural conversational requests.
However, many of those capabilities failed to arrive on schedule.
Apple originally suggested the upgraded Siri experience would roll out as part of the iOS 26 cycle, with reports initially pointing to iOS 26.4. Later reporting suggested delays into iOS 26.5, before more recent claims indicated some features may not arrive until iOS 27 or later.
Apple has since acknowledged that some Siri features are taking longer than expected, with CEO Tim Cook recently reaffirming during the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call that a “more personalized Siri” is still planned to launch this year.
Reports have suggested Apple has struggled internally with reliability issues tied to its AI systems, while Bloomberg has also claimed the company explored partnerships with Google to potentially use Gemini technology as part of Siri’s next evolution.
The delays became particularly controversial because Apple marketed Apple Intelligence heavily during the iPhone 16 launch cycle, positioning the personalized Siri experience as one of the lineup’s headline features.
