Apple is reportedly not planning to offer a black finish for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year, continuing the approach taken with the current iPhone 17 Pro lineup.
According to a recent report from Instant Digital, Apple had been considering a black option for the iPhone 18 Pro models, but the finish has since been “cut” from the lineup.
The report echoes previous claims from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who said Apple is testing a deep red finish for the iPhone 18 Pro models alongside a small number of more traditional colors. However, black does not appear to be among the final options currently under consideration.
There had also been rumors that Apple was testing purple and brown finishes for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Gurman has since suggested those colors are likely just variations of the same deep red concept rather than separate finishes.
Apple took a similar approach with the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, which launched without a traditional black color option. Instead, Apple offered the devices in silver, titanium gray, dark blue, and desert titanium.
If the latest reports are accurate, Apple could continue moving away from darker Pro finishes in favor of more distinctive color options for the iPhone 18 Pro models.
