Apple to celebrate 50th anniversary next month as Tim Cook reflects on company history

Apple has confirmed it will celebrate its 50th anniversary next month, with CEO Tim Cook marking the milestone in an open letter reflecting on the company’s history, values, and the people who have shaped Apple over the past five decades.

Apple was founded on April 1, 1976, by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. In a message shared today, Cook said the company remains guided by the same belief that technology should empower people to create, connect, and express themselves.

“Thinking different has always been at the heart of Apple,” Cook said. “It’s what has driven us to create products that empower people to express themselves, to connect, and to create something wonderful. As we celebrate 50 years, we are deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey and who continues to inspire what comes next.”

In the letter, Cook reflected on Apple’s origins and how the company has evolved since its early days in a California garage. He highlighted key products that have shaped the company’s history, including the original Apple computer, the Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods, as well as services such as the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay, iCloud, and Apple TV.

Cook also emphasized the role customers, developers, and Apple employees have played in the company’s growth. He said the most meaningful impact of Apple’s technology comes from how people use it in their daily lives, whether to build businesses, stay connected with loved ones, or pursue creative ideas.

Despite the milestone, Cook said Apple remains focused on the future rather than looking back. He thanked the millions of customers, developers, and employees around the world who continue to support the company and shape what comes next for Apple.
