Apple now has more than 2.5 billion active devices worldwide

Apple says its installed base has grown to more than 2.5 billion active devices.

The figure was revealed as part of the company’s record-breaking first quarter earnings, where Apple reported revenue of $143.8 billion and described demand for its products as exceptionally strong.

“We are also excited to announce that our installed base now has more than 2.5 billion active devices, which is a testament to incredible customer satisfaction for the very best products and services in the world,” said chief executive Tim Cook.

A year ago, Apple reported 2.35 billion active devices, meaning the company has added more than 150 million devices to its ecosystem in just 12 months.

The growing device base is a key driver behind Apple’s expanding Services business, which also reached an all-time revenue high in the quarter, rising 14% year on year.

Services include subscriptions such as Apple Music, iCloud+, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and the newly announced Apple Creator Studio bundle, which brings together professional apps including Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and Pixelmator Pro.

Analysts say the milestone underlines Apple’s long-term strategy of tying hardware, software and services together, creating ongoing revenue opportunities long after a device is first sold.
