Apple rolls out Messages via Satellite in Japan

Apple has rolled out Messages via Satellite in Japan.

The feature allows users to send and receive messages even when they are outside mobile phone coverage or Wi-Fi range.

It is available on iPhone 14 models and later, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

Messages via Satellite activates automatically when a user attempts to send a message without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.

The device then prompts the user to connect to the nearest satellite.

Once connected, users can send and receive text messages, emojis and Tapback reactions using iMessage or SMS.

The feature works directly from the Messages app, with on-screen guidance shown on the iPhone Lock Screen or Apple Watch display.

Messages via Satellite is now available in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
