Next major MacBook Pro redesign may be exclusive to high-end M6 Pro and M6 Max models

Apple’s long-rumoured MacBook Pro overhaul — expected between late 2026 and early 2027 — may only apply to the top-tier M6 Pro and M6 Max versions, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The redesign is said to include Apple’s first OLED display on a MacBook Pro with full touch support, a slimmer chassis, and potential 5G connectivity. Gurman also suggests Apple could move beyond the current notch design toward something closer to a Dynamic Island-style cutout.

Today’s lineup consists of three models: a base 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip, and higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch versions equipped with M4 Pro and M4 Max processors. Beyond performance, the two 14-inch variants remain largely identical — but that parity may not last.

Outlining Apple’s wider Mac roadmap, Gurman says new MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and an updated M5 MacBook Air are planned for the first half of next year. Mid-2025 is expected to bring refreshed M5 and M5 Pro Mac mini models, plus M5 Max and M5 Ultra versions of the Mac Studio. Toward the end of the year, Apple is reportedly preparing to debut the next-generation M6 chip alongside a new low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro.

The flagship redesign, however, is reserved for the more powerful M6 Pro and M6 Max variants — marking the most significant shift in the MacBook Pro line in years.
