Two armed burglars in Florida allegedly used an Apple AirTag to track a couple before ambushing and briefly abducting them at gunpoint outside their home, in what authorities described as “every family’s worst nightmare.”

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects reportedly attached the tracking device to the underside of the couple’s SUV before following them home to Odessa on August 19.

As reported by The New York Post, security footage released by investigators shows the pair confronting the victims as they exited their vehicle in the driveway, forcing them into the garage at gunpoint. One of the attackers wore a high-visibility vest, while the other was dressed in dark clothing and a mask.

The woman resisted during the attack, setting off a home alarm that prompted the intruders to flee before deputies arrived. No serious injuries were reported.

Following an investigation, deputies arrested two suspects in early October in connection with the incident. Both face multiple charges, including armed burglary, armed kidnapping, robbery with a firearm, false imprisonment, and illegal installation of a tracking device.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said: “To be ambushed at gunpoint in the very place you should feel safest is every family’s worst nightmare. Thanks to the work of our detectives, these dangerous criminals are now behind bars where they belong.”
