Apple teases new M5 Mac “coming soon”

Apple has teased the arrival of its next-generation Mac powered by the M5 chip, with Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak sharing a short video on X hinting that a new model is “coming soon.”

The teaser shows the silhouette of a MacBook forming the letter V, a reference to the Roman numeral for five, while Joswiak’s caption — “Mmmmm” — uses five M’s, a subtle nod to the M5 chip.

As reported over the weekend, Apple is preparing to launch a new base-model M5 MacBook Pro, internally codenamed J704, which is said to be nearing release. The device will likely replace the current base M4 configuration, which is now back-ordered in several regions — a potential sign that Apple is clearing stock ahead of the refresh.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also indicated that additional M5-powered Macs are in testing, though higher-end models featuring M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are not expected to debut until early 2026. Those models, codenamed J714and J716, are expected to ship with macOS 26.3, currently in development.

Apple’s teaser suggests the first M5-powered MacBook Pro could be announced as soon as this week, following reports that the company plans to reveal new products through an online press release rather than a live event.
