Apple releases macOS Tahoe 26 with new Liquid Glass design

Apple has today released macOS Tahoe 26, the latest major update for Mac.

The software delivers a refreshed look using Liquid Glass, a translucent design that runs across the Dock, menus and toolbars. The menu bar is now fully transparent, while users can personalise folders, icons and widgets with new tints, symbols and emoji.

The Phone app comes to Mac for the first time, offering Recents, Contacts and Voicemail, plus new features like Call Screening and Hold Assist.

Live Activities from iPhone also now appear in the Mac menu bar — keeping users updated on flights, rides or live sports in real time.

Spotlight search gets its biggest ever update. Results are ranked more intelligently, new filters help narrow searches, and hundreds of actions — like sending an email, creating a note or running a shortcut — can now be taken without leaving the search field.

Apple Intelligence expands on Mac with Live Translation across Messages, FaceTime and Phone. New creative tools include Genmoji, Image Playground and smarter Shortcuts, all designed to work on-device for privacy.

A new Apple Games app creates a hub for all Mac titles, alongside a Game Overlay to adjust settings or chat without leaving a game.

Safari gets a redesign with floating tabs, Messages gains Backgrounds and Polls, Journal comes to Mac for the first time, and Photos, FaceTime and Notes all receive major updates.

macOS Tahoe 26 is available now as a free update for supported Macs.
