Apple has confirmed that watchOS 26 will be released next Monday, September 15.
The update delivers a fresh design, enhanced fitness tools powered by Apple Intelligence, a new Workout Buddy experience, and a one-handed wrist flick gesture for quick interaction.
Like iOS 26, watchOS 26 introduces a “Liquid Glass” interface. Apple says the design uses real-time rendering to bring sharper, more dynamic visuals across the system.
The look extends to Smart Stack widgets, notifications, Control Center and in-app navigation.
One of the standout features is Workout Buddy, a spoken fitness companion powered by Apple Intelligence.
It offers real-time insights based on workout data, Activity rings, pace, heart rate and milestones — all tailored to each user’s history.
Apple says it can encourage runners at the start of a session, highlight achievements mid-run, and deliver personalised recaps at the finish.
The Workout app has been redesigned with a new layout and four corner buttons. These provide faster access to Workout Views, Custom Workouts, Pacer and Race Route.
Apple Intelligence also brings Live Translation to Apple Watch. Messages can be instantly translated into the user’s preferred language, with replies sent back in the recipient’s language.
The feature will be available on Series 9, Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, when paired with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
A new wrist flick gesture lets users dismiss notifications, silence timers, end calls and return to the watch face without touching the screen.
It uses the accelerometer, gyroscope and on-device machine learning to recognise motion accurately.
The feature will also be limited to Series 9, Series 10 and Ultra 2.
Notes arrives on Apple Watch for the first time. Users can create notes with Siri, dictation or the keyboard, as well as pin, unlock and check off checklist items.
watchOS 26 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 6 and later, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), and all Apple Watch Ultra models.
