Samsung Display is reportedly producing new OLED panels for Apple’s next-generation iPad mini, according to a new report out of Asia. The update could signal a major screen upgrade for the device, which currently uses a 60Hz LCD panel.
As noted by MacRumors, a Chinese leaker claimed the OLED upgrade is in the works, though it’s still unclear whether the new display will feature improvements like a higher refresh rate.
Apple has expanded its use of OLED displays across its lineup. All current flagship iPhones feature OLED screens, and in May 2024, the company brought the display technology to the iPad Pro for the first time.
The iPad mini was last updated in October, with the release of the 7th-generation model. That refresh introduced added A17 Pro chip—boosting CPU performance by 30% and GPU performance by 25%—alongside other upgrades, including doubled base storage (128GB), Apple Pencil Pro support, Wi-Fi 6E, and a faster USB-C port.
