Increasing theft trend sees AirPods Max wearers targeted across big cities

A recent surge in thefts has seen Apple’s high-end AirPods Max headphones, priced at $549.00, becoming a prime target for thieves. Incidents are occurring in major cities across the U.S., with culprits brazenly snatching the headphones right off people’s heads.

Inside Edition recently highlighted this trend. One case involved a person in New York’s Greenwich Village who was struck by two men on a moped. “It happened so fast and was so disorienting,” the victim recounted. “At first, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, that guy just randomly punching people is out again,’ but then 30 seconds later, I realized, ‘Oh, my headphones are gone.’”

In another instance, a person on a lunch break was targeted by thieves on a pedal bike. “I was so shocked,” they said. “I just had to watch them ride off with my headphones in their hand.”

The rise in these thefts has prompted victims to take to social media, warning others about the growing risk.

In light of the alarming trend, some victims are reluctant to replace their stolen AirPods Max. “I am really nervous,” one individual shared. “I just spent my hard-earned money buying them—they’re not cheap. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing them again.”
