Tap to Pay on iPhone now available in Germany

Apple has expanded the availability of Tap to Pay on iPhone to Germany, a feature that effectively transforms the iPhone into a payment terminal. This allows businesses to accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets through a simple tap of their iPhone. Starting today, Tap to Pay on iPhone is available to users in Germany.

Apple introduced its Tap to Pay on iPhone feature in February 2022. Since then, the feature has been rolled out in the U.S., Australia, Brazil, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Taiwan, the U.K., Ukraine, Canada, and Italy. This expansion allows businesses in these regions to securely accept contactless payments using only an iPhone and a partner-enabled iOS app.

Adyen, Commerz Globalpay, myPOS, Nexi, SumUp, and Viva are the first payment platforms to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone to German merchants. Later this year, mollie, PAYONE, Revolut, the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, and Stripe will also introduce Tap to Pay on iPhone. From today, Tap to Pay on iPhone is available in all Apple Stores across Germany, and the feature is launching at retailers such as Dyson, GANNI, and Rituals. Additionally, gastronovi is integrating Tap to Pay on iPhone into its POS systems, which are widely used by thousands of restaurants throughout the country.

When a business presents their iPhone to a customer for a contactless payment, the transaction is securely completed using NFC technology. No additional hardware is required to accept contactless payments through Tap to Pay on iPhone, enabling businesses to accept payments wherever they operate.
