Dan Riccio, Apple’s SVP of Hardware Engineering has reportedly told colleagues that he is “nearing retirement” following a 25-year run at the iPhone maker, reports Bloomberg.
In the past three years, Riccio transitioned to the role of vice president of engineering and successfully navigated challenges to bring the Vision Pro to market, overcoming the product’s troubled history. Over the course of his 12-year tenure at Apple, he played a crucial role in various significant projects, such as leading engineering for the iPad and contributing to products like the iPad mini, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone X.
Riccio’s management style has been described as hard-driving and controversial, and Apple faced setbacks in projects like smart speakers, a failed TV initiative, and the ambitious car project. Despite challenges, his leadership in the transition from Intel to Apple’s custom chips in 2020 marked a turning point for the company. The successful launch of Apple Vision Pro is viewed as a noteworthy achievement in his career at Apple.
No timeline was provided for Riccio’s departure from Apple, however, according to Bloomberg on Sunday, the SVP’s exit could be soon.
