Apple ID could be renamed ‘Apple Account’ later this year

According to a report from MacRumors, Apple is allegedly planning to rename Apple ID—the account used to access Apple services such as the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more—to “Apple Account.”

Citing sources familiar with the plans, Apple is experimenting with the new “Apple Account” name, and it could be introduced as soon as this year.

Assuming the rename goes ahead, MacRumors note that users could see the change begin to be rolled out with the release of iOS 18, which will make its debut in June at WWDC24 before launching to the public in the fall.

An Apple ID is the account used for all-things Apple. It includes the email address and password that you use to sign in as well as all the contact, payment, and security details that you use across Apple services.
