Apple begins paying out $92 ‘batterygate’ compensation to users as part of $500 million settlement

iPhone users are now set to receive payouts as Apple disbursement of funds as part of its $500 million settlement related to the “batterygate” throttling controversy. Those who filed claims in the case are expected to receive approximately $92.17 per claim, potentially accumulating nearly $1,000 in total payouts for certain individuals.

This settlement applies specifically to iPhone users residing in the United States. However, concurrently in the UK, a comparable lawsuit is underway, aiming for damages amounting to as much as £1.6 billion. This sum is anticipated to be distributed among potentially 25 million iPhone users involved in the case in the UK.

The ‘Batterygate’ saga saw Apple deliberately slow the performance of older iPhone models in a move the company said was to prevent performance issues.

Affected models include the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus.

The iPhone maker faced a major backlash, offering reduced price battery services for users with performance problems, refunds to customers who paid for full-price battery repairs, and a software update that offered users the option to turn off performance throttling as well as showing the health of the device’s battery through the form of a percentage.

Thanks for the tip, Adam.
