Apple has announced that it is piloting new contingent pricing for App Store subscriptions which will allow developers to give customers a discounted subscription price to subscribers with multiple app subscriptions.

In a post to the Apple Developer newsroom, Apple says the new pricing feature “helps [developers] attract and retain subscribers,” offering discounts on subscriptions from one developer or two different developers.

Contingent pricing can be used for subscriptions from one developer or two different developers. For example, a developer might offer premium subscribers the opportunity to subscribe to another app of theirs for a discounted price of $4.99/month instead of the regular $5.99/month. Customers will pay the discounted price for the second app as long as they remain subscribers of the first.

Apple says it will be onboarding more developers in the coming months, inviting those who are interested in implementing contingent pricing to start planning and to sign up to get notified when more details are available in January.
