First watchOS 10.1 developer beta now available

Apple has today pushed its first developer beta of watchOS 10.1 with build number 21S5042f, which enables Apple’s new NameDrop feature, which, like AirDrop, allows Apple Watch users to share contact information with other users by bringing their Apple Watches together.

watchOS 10.1 also introduces Double Tap, a new feature coming to the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, which allows users to interact with their wearable without touching the screen, although it appears that the beta hasn’t fully enabled the feature for the new Apple Watch models despite adding the option in the Settings app.

The release of watchOS 10.1 for developers follows after Apple launched watchOS 10 last week.

Previous watchOS iterations, such as watchOS 9 last year, saw Apple announce fairly lacklustre improvements for the Apple Watch, with Apple completely switching things around with watchOS 10, bringing a full set of redesigned apps to provide more information at a glance, and new ways to navigate and quickly access content, and more.

Apple has also seeded developer beta versions of iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 today.
