iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro to include new “U2” ultra wideband chip

Apple will introduce a second-generation ultra wideband chip to the iPhone 15 series, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Friday.

In a report outlining his expectations for Apple’s upcoming ‘Wonderlust’ special event on Tuesday, Gurman says he expects the new devices to improve their location capabilities through the first iteration to Apple’s original U1 chip, first launched with the iPhone 11 Pro in 2019.

Gurman claims that all four models in the iPhone 15 series will include the “U2” chip, which will improve precise location tracking, such as that used to connect with AirTag and other accessories through the Find My app.

Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to bring substantial upgrades over the current-generation iPhone 14 series.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are both slated to feature an upgraded design with a new, lighter and stronger chassis, improved battery performance, an all-new dark blue color option, thinner bezels, Apple’s new A17 Bionic chip, and support for USB-C, dropping the proprietary Lightning connector for greater accessory connectivity
