Apple Watch Series 9 rumored to feature new processor based on A15 chip

Apple’s next Apple Watch iteration, the Apple Watch Series 9, is rumored to feature an all-new processor based on the A15 chip, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who suggests that the Apple Watch could get its first major chip upgrade since the Apple Watch Series 6.

For the past few years, Apple has been making minor improvements to the S6 chip that was first used in the Apple Watch Series 6, with the latest Apple Watch Series 8 still running on the core processor that debuted three years ago.

However, with the Apple Watch Series 9, which is expected to be announced in the fall, the wearable is said to feature an all-new processor based on the A15 chip which first launched with the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, offering users speed and efficiency improvements, resulting in quicker load times and better battery life.

Gurman has previously said that he “wouldn’t anticipate major changes to the Apple Watch’s hardware this year,” noting how “some minor performance boosts” will likely be added to roundup a relatively minor upgrade over the previous-generation.

Unlike 2022, which saw the launch of three Apple Watch models: the Apple Watch Series 8, second-generation Apple Watch SE and all-new Apple Watch Ultra, if the iPhone maker sticks with its usual Apple Watch release pattern, the company will only release one new Apple Watch this year — the Apple Watch Series 9.
