Apple could swap the mute switch on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with an all-new customizable Action button, like that found on the Apple Watch Ultra, giving users the ability to program the button to set ring/silent, turn on the flashlight, turn on low power mode, and more.
The insight comes from MacRumors, who reference a forum member who leaked accurate details about the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro models last year who says internally, Apple is referring to mute switch on the iPhone 15 Pro as an Action button, hinting that the button will be user programmable for the first time on an iPhone.
Earlier today, the same source claimed that Apple will introduce a new low-energy chip with the iPhone 15 Pro to enable a new non-moving solid-state volume button that will simulate the feel of physical buttons through software, even when the device is turned off or has been depleted of battery.
The source claims that the new solid-state button may also be able to sense capacitive presses, holds, “and even detect their own version of 3D Touch,” suggesting that the new volume buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro may be able to be adjusted by swiping up and down on the button with a finger.
