Apple to improve battery life on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro with new OLED driver chip, report claims

All four iPhone 15 models will receive battery life improvements through the use of a 28nm OLED driver chip, according to a report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, which claims that the new, more power-efficient OLED display driver chip will help further reduce power consumption and improve battery life on the new devices.

Citing supply chain sources, the report claims that Apple will upgrade the OLED driver chip on all four iPhone 15 models from 40nm HV to 28nm HV, a change that will result in performance improvements for the new devices, as well as improving power consumption, which could lead to the iPhone 15 offering longer battery life compared to previous models.

The report states that at present, the core suppliers of Apple’s OLED driver chips are LX Semicon and Samsung System LSI.

Apple isn’t expected to be upgrading the displays of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, although it is rumored that the regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will gain the Dynamic Island from the iPhone 14 Pro.
