iOS 16.1 improves battery percentage icon with dynamic indicator

Apple has today rolled out iOS 16.1, expanding Live Activities to third-party apps, introducing Clean Energy Charging to iPhone in the US, adding iCloud Shared Photo Library support, and more.

In addition to expanding the battery percentage indicator to the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone XR, and iPhone 11, iOS 16.1 includes an important update to the battery percentage icon overall, with the indicator now being dynamic and changing to reflect the overall percentage of remaining battery.

Since the battery percentage icon was brought back to iPhone with iOS 16, the battery icon in the iPhone’s status bar has remained full regardless of the battery percentage available. For example, an iPhone with 50 percent battery would show a full battery icon with the percentage inside, rather than the icon adjusting to show the remaining charge level.

With iOS 16.1, Apple has made the battery percentage icon dynamic, with the indicator changing based on the remaining battery percentage on the device, as most users would expect it to do.

Other updates to the battery percentage icon with iOS 16.1 include an updated font and the removal of the charging bolt icon when the iPhone is charged fully.
