Apple has been widely rumored to be planning a special event for October, where the iPhone maker was expected to announce new iPads and Macs, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggesting today in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter that the rumors could be wrong, and Apple may end up announcing the upcoming new products via a press release instead, without the usual event fanfare.
The rumored October special event would be Apple’s second event of fall, following September’s ‘Far out’ keynote, which saw the launch of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, new Apple Watch Series 8, second-generation Apple Watch SE, and all-new rugged Apple Watch Ultra.
Event or no event, Apple is expected to announce 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with M2 chips, plus an updated Mac mini and new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, which will likely feature M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.
According to Gurman, “Apple may ultimately end up feeling differently, but I think the company (as of now) is more likely to release its remaining 2022 products via press releases, updates to its website and briefings with select members of the press—rather than via a major iPhone-style keynote.”
