Facebook has added new widgets to show friends’ birthdays and important updates from a user’s friends list from the iPhone Lock Screen, compatible with all devices running iOS 16, which is now available after being released on Monday.
Available now, the latest Facebook app update includes two widget types in three styles. The first, “Birthdays at a glance” is available in either a small widget showing the number of friends celebrating their birthday today or a larger version that displays the name’s of the friends whose birthday it is. The second widget, called “Top updates” shows the latest important updates from friends.
Facebook is one of several new apps adopting iPhone Lock Screen widgets from day one, including Transport for London, which has introduced new widgets to show live information about the status of the TfL underground tube network.
How to add Lock Screen widgets in iOS 16
- On the Lock Screen, press and hold the background image until the Collections view appears
- Edit your Lock Screen by tapping the Customise button
- Select the highlighted Add Widgets box underneath the time on the Lock Screen
- Choose up to three Widgets to appear on the Lock Screen from the available options
- Either tap or drag the widgets from the list onto your Lock Screen
- Tap the background to close the widget list and press Done to save your custom Lock Screen
After updating to iOS 16 and the latest Facebook app version, users must open the Facebook app and then enter the Lock Screen editor for the new Facebook widget to appear.
