iOS 16 beta 5 adds battery percentage to iPhone status bar

Apple has seeded the fifth iOS 16 developer beta today, adding back the battery percentage to the status bar on iPhone after removing it almost five years ago with the release of the iPhone X.

Until now, Apple has only shown users a visual representation of the battery level rather than an exact percentage, with users having to swipe down to open Control Center to view the percentage due to the lack of space in the iPhone status bar because of the space taken up by the TrueDepth camera system.

With the latest beta, users can enable the battery percentage using the Settings app, which has a new option in the Battery subsection.

With the setting enabled, the battery percentage will show inside the battery icon in the iPhone status bar, with the color of the battery percentage numbers changing dynamically based on the user’s wallpaper, and whether or not the user is charging their iPhone or has Low Power Mode enabled.

It is worth noting that the iOS 16 battery percentage indicator is not available on the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 13 mini.
