AirPods shipments grew 3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2022

AirPods popularity is continuing to grow, with market intelligence data from research firm Canalys reporting that Apple saw AirPods shipments grow by 3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2022, with Apple seeing shipments of 21.7 million in Q1 2022, ranking has the highest vendor above Samsung, Xiaomi, and more.

Global TWS (true wireless stereo) shipments grew 17% in Q1 2022 to reach 68.2 million units, according to the latest Canalys data. Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi retained their top three positions from the previous quarter, but only Apple grew shipments.

As well as growth in its AirPods line, Beats by Dre, Apple’s audio sub-brand, contributed more significant growth, increasing 553% to reach 2.4 million units, with Canalys attributing the strong performance to the  popularity of its Studio Buds and the recently launched Fit Pro.

Reports suggest that Apple will unveil new second-generation AirPods later this year, no doubt helping grow the iPhone maker’s market share in the TWS category moving forward.
