WWDC22: iOS 16 is not available on these five iPhones

Apple has announced iOS 16, featuring an all-new Lock Screen design with Apple Watch style typographic changes, notification updates, improvements to Maps, Messages, Focus and Live Text, as well as Wallet upgrades such as a new buy now, pay later service called Apple Pay Later, and sharing of Apple Wallet keys through third-party services such as WhatsApp.

Hot on the heels of the announcement, Apple has shared a list of all devices that will support the update later this year, dropping support for five iPhone models.

Apple has revealed that iOS 16 will be available on the ‌iPhone‌ 8 and later, dropping support for the original iPhone SE, the iPhone 6s, the ‌iPhone‌ 6s Plus, and the ‌iPhone‌ 7 and ‌iPhone‌ 7 Plus.

What devices will support iOS 16?

Apple has said that iOS 16 will be available on the iPhone‌ 8 and later, meaning that the update will be available on the following iPhone models:

  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
