Ahead of the release of Apple’s new “Tap to Pay on iPhone” feature, which will allow business to take Apple Pay and contactless payments using nothing but an iPhone, a new video shared on Sunday shows how the Apple Park Visitor Center is now trialing the payment system in-store ahead of its official rollout.
The video, shared by Michael (@NTFTWT) on Twitter, shows a retail employee taking a payment from a customer using only an iPhone – without any card terminal or additional hardware.
Apple announced its new “Tap to Pay on iPhone” feature in February. The feature will theoretically turn the iPhone into a payment terminal, with businesses able accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets through a simple tap to their iPhone.
Available in the US at launch, “Tap to Pay on iPhone” will be available for payment platforms and app developers to integrate into their iOS apps, launching firstly with support from Stripe followed by Adyen before the year’s end.
Apple is yet to confirm when the new “Tap to Pay on iPhone” feature will launch, but considering that at least one Apple Store is already testing the feature, it seems like it won’t be long before we hear more about the release and when other business will be able to begin accepting payments via the contactless system.
